The Vinyl Monstrosity

This is my old couch.

As you can see, it's a lovely mustard yellow colour, and made of a sticky, sweaty, pleathery vinylish type material. I'm not exactly sure what it is. I do know that it's disgusting. It was a hand-me down from a friend that moved back to Germany a few years ago. I took it despite it's monstrous appearance, because I'd just bought a condo after a year of unemployment. How that works, I'm not sure. Still, it happened. So there I was, in a beautiful condo in the heart of downtown Toronto. Nine foot concrete ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, stainless steel appliances - a dream come true.

With no furniture except an old futon, a table and 2 chairs, it was pretty empty. Until of course, that couch arrived. But hey, what're you gonna do? I had to have something to sit on, and couldn't afford to buy a new couch.

Well!

This is my ultra sexy and stylish new couch. I am pleased to report that the vinyl monstrosity has finally been retired. The last time I saw him, he had been stolen from the garbage dumpster, and was being loaded into someone else's moving truck. I was amused by the sight to say the least.

I hope he serves his new owners as well as he served me.

Farewell vinyl monstrosity. I wish you well.

I'm gonna miss that mustard fella. But your new couch looks beautiful! I'm happy that you finally got it in your condo. So when ya gonna invite us all over? We can eat chili dogs on your new white couch!!!!

I think I threw up once and it was that exact couch colour. I'm jealous of your new one though, mine wouldn't fit through the door when I moved in and two years later its still in the garage and I still sit on the floor. Thanks for the link by the way!

OMG! I am not kidding you! I am so jealous of your new couch! It's like so stylishly cool and it looks like it belongs on a sitcom. For reals. Or on the cover of some house decorating magazine. Excellent choice.

No, I have not read Louise Hay. Will look her up.

If it's okay with you, I have added you to my friends link list.

Okay, the couch, no, really you got a new condo, right? You have to be feeling really wowzers right now. Have you switched to white wine??

The new couch is gorgeous! I slept on a couch like the "before" shot on a long weekend last summer and I kept alternating between having my legs sliding off and peeling my face and bare arms from the vinyl like I was a fly in a trap. Good riddance old couch!

May! You wouldn't dare!! No chili dogs allowed!

Kat - You would not believe how much DRAMA was involved in getting this couch through my front door! 2 separate deliveries, coordination with the neighbour across the hall, and a dismantling of the arms!! How sad that you can't sit on your new/old couch. :(

David - Thanks! It took me 2 years to decide on a couch...it was so difficult, but I'm glad I finally did. I love it!

Smakie - Never mind the couch. I can't wait to see the Roche Bobois $6000 table!!

Hattigrace - Thanks! I'm flattered. I have added you as well. Yeah, I feel pretty great right about now. I feel like I've been building to this "moment of abundance" for a long time. And NO liquids are allowed near my couch AT ALL!! ;)

K - LOL! That feeling of peeling off the face and arms is sadly, very familiar. It's a terrible thing, isn't it.

The couch is an excellent addition to what seems from your description to be a very lovely condo. It really is beautiful. I too have horrible hand-me-down awful sticky leather couches, but eventually I hope to have new pretty ones.... Anyway, I love the style choice. It's totally classic.

Really like the new sofa.

However I'm now much more interested in the old one. What went through it's mind as it was rescued? Who took it? Where is it now? Who's sitting on it?

I'm no good at writing but I had this idea for a novel all based on a sofa and it's life with different people.
