So I Never Went Back

If I have one true addiction, it's got to be music. Turning on my music is the first thing I do when I get home from work. Even before taking off my shoes or coat. If I'm in a room, there's music playing. If I'm in transit, I'm listening to 1 of my 2 iPods. I don't even take my headphones off when people are talking to me. I try to read their lips! If there's no stereo available, I turn the TV to one of the digital music stations. When all else fails, I sing. Yes, it's a total obsession.

I probably have about 90GB of music on a hard drive on my computer at home. When you have that much music, it's difficult to give proper attention to everything that's there. So when something catches my ear, I consider it a gift.

I've heard this song a million times before, but this morning I actually really listened to the lyrics, when it played on my iPod. I was totally present to them. And they were so achingly beautiful, sparse and sad, that I cried on the bus.

I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark

No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son, fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back

If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
The blackest of rooms

If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark

music music music....

How can you be human without music. To me it's one of the defining things that sets us apart from the animal kingdom to be uniquely human. Okay I know there is whale song etc. in the animal kingdom but ... music.

So look I can't speak many languages, English sort of and French enough to order lunch. But if you put me with musicians from other countries and some sheet music we'd make something together. Amazing!

I captures emotions, it drives my soul and my spirit... When I pick up a guitar it might be crap but it's something I create in that moment that is unique 'cos even with the dots I'll play it slightly different from the next person.

I could go on all day...

First off, let me say, I think it's kinda cool that you're not talking about Thanksgiving like most other bloggers. Guess it's the Canadian in you...LOL!

Second, I LOVE music too! It's a part of life that I cant imagine living without! I mean every living thing in this world has a beat so it only seems natural, you know?

Plus...awesome song selection!
